WRITERS ABROAD MAGAZINE: THE THIRD SPACE
What of Paris
By Bieke Stengos
As they floated
through the city
on a cushion of love
their arms entwined
their souls one
their bodies welded
her eyes
seeing the world
through his
his warm hand
clasping hers
in the deep pocket
of his overcoat
she’d thought
whimsically:
We’ll always have Paris
But what of Paris
she now thought
gazing at the scene
before her
where straight lines
converged at the horizon
Where the bench
that shared
their kisses
is covered in snow
Where his black umbrella
blew in
from
who knows
where
Yet still
his hand
not there
to reach for it
