A river in southern Bangladesh, 14 boats, 154 female paddlers in bright saris…a
generation ago no one would have throughout it possible. ‘Women stay at home to
mind the children,’ people would have said. But thanks to Tarango, a local
organisation working with 12,000 disadvantaged women across Bangladesh, the
women’s boat races are now the annual highlight in these women’s lives.
