Red Ecosystem

Ray McDermott

At the glow of dawn,

A tiny pond,

In the woodland brush

Awakes.

Alive but calm,

Trees and leaves

Little blades collect dew.

A tomato frog on the bank

Pitch black eyes clash

His glittering skin.

Cedar permeates

Through earthy air.

A cardinal chirps,

Resting on a branch,

Upright and alert.

A lone ladybug crawls up bark

Her pattern diverse from the desolate brown
