LIGHTALIVE PHOTOGRAPHY WLM | my Wyoming craving by Kati Hime WLM: When did you first pick up a camera? NW: Early teens I’d say. I was lucky enough to start with film and learn to appreciate just how lucky we are now with digital cameras. I hated having to wait days to see how my images turned out. WLM: What inspired you to become a landscape photographer? NW: Wyoming. It’s one of the most beautiful and unique places on the planet. Although some of it has been heavily photographed (Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks), much of it has been ignored. I think it might be how Wyoming presents itself to the world. Most people I’ve spoken with outside of Wyoming usually associate it with Yellowstone, Tetons, coal, cowboys, oil and gas…and of course the long, seemingly endless roads. But there is so much more to this state. While all of those are parts of Wyoming, they are only small pieces of the state as a whole. We have the lowest population density per square mile in the country, and much of it is public land and national forest. Makes for endless opportunities in regards to unique and beautiful landscapes to explore and enjoy -- whether it’s hunting, fishing, rock climbing, exploring, photography, etc. Truly, if some of the features and landscapes that exist in Wyoming were in other parts of the country, they’d be national parks or monuments already. Unfortunately, some of them are in danger of losing their wildness. It’s a personal goal of mine to photograph as much of Wyoming as possible, and to try and share that with as many people as I can. Hopefully others www.wyolifestyle.com 31
