Homecoming & Spirit
Week in the Elementary
Department Homecoming
Spirit Week is an event the WSD
Elementary students and staff look
forward to every year. It is a week
filled with awesome presentations
from the students about five topics
that are chosen by the teachers.
This year’s five topics were:
Occupations Day, Insect Day,
Food Group Day, Emotions Day,
and Firebird Day. The goal is
for the students to practice their
American Sign Language skills by
presenting a topic to their audience
using informative Power Points,
poetry, stories, and fingerspelling.

Homecoming 2014
WSD ROCKS was the theme for WSD’s 2014 Homecoming. Spirit week saw the usual crazy colors and
clothing. Monday was ‘clash day’ where both students and staff wore clothing that did not match. Clashing
clothes is a usual spirit day in any school, but this particular Monday hurt the eyes. Tuesday was ‘twin day’ and
brought smiles to many faces and the halls were filled with more fraternal twins than identical twins. Think of
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny
DeVito in the movie Twins. On
Wednesday, Disney clothing and
characters roamed the school. Thursday
saw an array of neon colors as each
class had their own bright color. Bright
pink (seniors), blue (sophomores),
yellow (staff), orange (juniors) and
green (freshmen) clothes were bold and
energizing to see filling the halls.
Of course, Friday was red and white day.
The pep rally highlighted the spirit of
WSD pride, and all visitors could easily
identify the school colors of WSD. The
Arkansas School for the Deaf volleyball
and football teams were invited. The
volleyball team could not make the
trip, so, as a replacement, WSD staff
and alumni played against the WSD
volleyball team for several unofficial
2014 Homecoming Court
games. WSD won the football game with
