Mexico had some fight, especially in the second game. At one
point, New Mexico led 17-9 in the second game. Wisconsin
came back to win the match outright. WSD faced Minnesota
in the championship match of the tournament. The team
played good offense and placed their hits well, but Minnesota
was able to take the lead and never looked back. The Lady
Firebirds could almost taste the championship, but were not
able to overcome the juggernaut of Minnesota. GPSD AllTournament team: Lyssa Matsche and Alaqua Cox.
WSD vs. Rock County Christian School 9-25, 12-25, 23-25
After the euphoria of achieving second place at the GPSD tournament, Wisconsin had to
face Rock County to whom they lost earlier in the season. Rock County controlled the entire
match with their home-court advantage. The Lady Firebirds attempted to mount a comeback
in the third game but Rock County was able to pull away with a win.
WSD vs. Mountain Top Christian Academy 21-25, 11-25, 18-25
The first game started even between both teams as WSD and Mountain Top played good offense and defense. At
one point, the score was tied nine to nine and the battle continued to the point where Mountain Top was able to
take the lead 22-21. They did not look back again. The Wisconsin offense struggled mightily in the second game
and Mountain Top came out on the top. The Lady Firebirds found their offense in the third game and kept it close
but Mountain Top pulled away with the win.

WSD vs. Maranatha Baptist Academy 25-15, 23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 11-15
The Lady Firebirds wanted to close the season with a win but Maranatha prevented that. Always a close rivalry,
WSD took a commanding lead 16-8 in the first game with four points each from Besaw and Menzel. WSD held
their lead to finish the game 25-15. In the second game, Maranatha came to life but WSD stayed in the lead 2118. However, Maranatha was able to take the game behind excellent serves. WSD then won the third game with
diligent play from the seniors. Maranatha eventually won the final two games as a result of Wisconsin’s serving
errors. The Lady Firebirds ended the season with a loss but not its pride.
