Central States Schools for the Deaf With only three teams in attendance, the Lady Firebirds Volleyball Tournament in Jacksonville, IL played each school twice in the round robin tournament. Round Robin Wisconsin dominated the competition with great offense Wisconsin vs. Michigan 21-25, 25-20, 25-20 and defense. There was no “I” on the “Wsconsn”2 team Wisconsin vs. Illinois 25-17, 25-17 the entire tournament. Wisconsin vs. Illinois 25-14, 25-17 Wisconsin vs. Michigan 25-12, 25-9 Tournament Bracket Semi-final: Wisconsin vs. Illinois 25-14, 25-17 Championship: Wisconsin vs. Michigan 25-19, 25-15 WSD won the first seed for the bracket portion and earned a bye. Wisconsin then faced Illinois for the semi-final. The Tigers still could not stop the Firebirds’ domination. WSD swept ISD two to zero. Then Wisconsin faced Michigan for the championship match. The Lady Firebirds could not be stopped as they again swept Michigan. Seniors Elizabeth Besaw, Lyssa Matsche, and Emma Menzel were nominated to the CSSD all-star team. Wisconsin vs. Union Grove Christian School BELOW: Katelyn Miller adjusts for the pass. 20-25, 13-25, 21-25 Facing Union Grove at home immediately after CSSD, Wisconsin attempted to muster some energy to play Union Grove. Union Grove proved to be energetic and overcame WSD’s futile attempt to keep the match close. Union Grove swept both matches against the Lady Firebirds this season. Wisconsin vs. Waukesha Christian Academy 19-25, 18-25, 15-25 Exacting revenge on the Lady Firebirds for Waukesha’s earlier loss, Waukesha swept the match with three wins. The Firebirds were feeling the leftover effects from the CSSD tournament and could not muster sufficient energy to win a game at Waukesha. LEFT: Freshman Maddie Anderson conquers the underhand serve. Wisconsin vs. Grace Christian Academy 25-14, 25-23, 25-10 Grace came to Wisconsin’s home floor, seeking to even the season series after losing to WSD earlier in the season. The Lady Firebirds woke up from the post-tournament slumber and dominated the match. Grace attempted to come back in the second game but the Lady Firebirds were undaunted and stopped Grace’s momentum. Discourag YܘX
