Huff Happenings

A Gift for Mom
With Mother’s Day approaching, the elementary and
middle school dorm students wanted to make gifts for
their mothers. Since the weather was nice, dorm staff
decided to take the girls outside armed with sidewalk
chalk. Each student created a drawing with the color
of their choice and then had their picture taken with
what they had just drawn. After the staff had each
drawing printed, the student then made a card and
inserted the photo to give to their mothers as a gift.
Burning a Hole in my Pockets!
In the dorm, each of the elementary and middle school girls were given a wood block and had to get crafts in
order to decorate it. Low craft supplies warranted a visit to the Hobby Lobby store in Janesville Wisconsin.
Each girl had some spending money given by their own parents to get some items of their choice to decorate
their own block with their own style and air. They spent several hours on decorating their own block to
represent their own vision. Completed blocks were admired by peers and this initiated some interesting
conversations among the girls!
A Walk through the Park
On a beautiful spring afternoon, the energetic
elementary and middle school dorm students decided
to take a walk to Veteran’s Park. The girls observed
several different kinds of rocks and owers there
and had a discussion about them. The staff nally
rounded up the girls and told several scary stories
which caused the girls to scream or giggle before
returning to the dorm to wash up in time for supper.
Chasing the Laughter
High School students nally had their quarterly adventure after a long wait due to the snowstorms that we
have had during the early spring. Students traveled to Milwaukee to Lightspeed Entertainment, where they
chased each other in the Laser Tag arena and laughed while racing the indoor go-karts. For those who only
chose one of the main activities, they had the option to chill in the arcade. Students expressed that they really
had fun there and would like to go back another time.
