Did you know?
George W. Veditz was voted to be
President of the National Association of
the Deaf twice (in 1904 and 1907).
Mr. Veditz was a leader in wanting to film
sign language. He made the film “The
Preservation of Sign Language” in 1913.
Mr. Veditz was born on August 13,
1861. Veditz’s hometown of Baltimore,
Maryland will begin an annual Veditz
Festival on his birthday. The George
Veditz ASL Festival is dedicated to
celebrating the wealth of sign language

Mr. Veditz graduated from college in 1884, before it was called
Gallaudet University. He graduated from the “National Deaf-Mute
College” at the Columbia Institution for the Deaf. In 1893 it was
renamed Gallaudet College, later becaming Gallaudet University.
