New Staff

Casey Kelly
Although Casey Kelly is one of WSD’s newest staff members, he
certainly is not new to the WSD environment. Casey graduated
in 2002 from WSD, but now most of his day consists of working
in the Tech Department editing film clips and other technology
assignments. In the early mornings and late afternoons, Casey can
be found working with students in a variety of settings as a Child
Care Councelor or Educational Assistant. When asked about his
fondest memory of being a student here at WSD, Casey said it
was playing football, basketball, and track. Casey also felt that his
involvement in clubs while here at WSD taught him leadership
and role modeling skills. He feels these skills are valuable for
working with the next generation of WSD students.

Gaining Knowledge
Recently, teacher Michael Coates challenged his high school
students to a research project about another state school for the
Deaf using Power Point. Mr. Coates wanted to give the students
an opportunity to improve their Power Point skills and work on
their researching and presenting skills. During
their research, students learned that there are
other deaf schools all over America. The students
used the internet to find details such as the status
and location of the school, when it was founded,
availability of dorms, and grade levels.
When the projects were completed, Mr. Coates
invited Ms. Urdahl and her fifth grade students
to watch the presentations. Naomi Cinefro chose
