Special Olympics Basketball
WSD vs Lakeland Thunder 10-52
WSD vs Lakeland 27-22
The Firebirds Special Olympics basketball team found
Lakeland Thunder to be a real challenge due to their
tall, quick players and their large fan base. Although
WSD has many young and inexperienced players, the
Firebirds were able to score in all four quarters. Senior
Kadedra Jackson led the team with 6 points while
junior Alex Kubiske added 4 points.
The Firebirds played Lakeland Lightning in front of
a home crowd. WSD started slow without a score
in the first quarter. In the following quarters, WSD
came back, went ahead and finally beat the Lightning.
Junior Alex Kubiske led the team with 14 points while
senior Kadedra Jackson and senior Brandaun Carter
contributed with 6 and 5 points respectively. Eighth
grader Andy Coppola showed selflessness with headsup passing. The game provided an opportunity for the
new players to learn their positions and demonstrate
great sportsmanship.
WSD vs. Racine Unified 27-7
WSD beat Racine Unified in the first game of a
doubleheader with a strong start and never looked
back. Junior Alex Kubiske led the scoring with 12
points while eighth grader Andy Coppola added
5 points. A highlight of the game was sophomore
Michael Schulze’s pure joy as he scored a basket that
was all net!
WSD vs Spice Girls 38-22
In the First Annual Western Racine Special Olympics
Basketball tournament in Burlington, the Firebirds
won the first game against the Spice Girls by 16
points. Senior Brandaun Carter scored 10 points while
3 other players chipped in 8 points each. Sixth grader
Wyatt Keller and junior Kiara McBride took turns
handling the ball at point guard. Both had several
assists.

WSD vs Eagles 24-32
WSD vs, Racine Unified 24-8
WSD was able to focus on improving their defense
during their win over Racine Unified. WSD’s
endurance overwhelmed Racine with Alex Kubiske
scoring 10 points and senior Kadedra Jackson’s
contribution of 6 points.
Spring 2013 - 18
One Eagles player kept the Firebirds running and
led to a deficit at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
Using sportsmanship and excellent hustle by sixth
grader Anthony Bole, junior Kiara McBride, and
sophomore Michael Schulze, WSD was able to come
back to tie the Eagles in the fourth quarter. Despite the
exciting comeback, WSD fell to the Eagles by eight
points. Seniors Brandaun Carter and Kadedra Jackson
provided leadership with 8 points each.
