High School Girls Basketball First Half of the Season Record: 2-7 Like the speed of light, Kori was a dynamite sight! Everywhere at once. WSD vs. Minnesota Deaf 38-48 In the rst game of the annual Neesam Classic, the Lady Firebirds fought the Trojans of the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf valiantly but lost the game by ten points. Junior Kori Koss and Senior Marika Beyer played their rst game for the Firebirds and led the team with 21 and 12 points, respectively. Kori had 9 rebounds to go with 12 steals on the defense. The Lady Firebirds elded only 5 players in this game. WSD vs. Iowa Deaf 32-17 WSD beat the Iowa School for the Deaf Bobcats in the nal game of the Neesam Classic 32 to 17. Kori Koss paced the Lady Firebirds with 19 points while Marika Beyer contributed with 7 points. Marika was a rebounding machine with 24 rebounds while freshman Katelyn Miller produced 12 rebounds. Junior Anna Dorst added 4 points while Lyssa Matsche scored 2 points. The team defended the Bobcats well limiting the Bobcats to single digit points each quarter. WSD vs. Kenosha Reuther 46-45 Kenosha Reuther played WSD hard but the Lady Firebirds were able to win this game by the skin of their teeth. Kenosha led WSD 25-22 by halftime but WSD came back in the second half to win the game. Senior Marika Beyer led all players with a double and double of 21 points and 20 rebounds. Junior Kori Koss added 15 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Freshman Katelyn Miller got 12 boards as well as 2 points while sophomore Lyssa Matsche contributed 6 points and 7 boards. Winter 2013 - 16 WSD vs. Mountain Top Christian 40-58 WSD got back to .500 with the loss against Mountain Top Christian. Mountain Top blitzed the Lady Firebirds in the rst half by scoring 31 points while WSD scored only 19 points. A comeback was attempted in the second half to no avail after running out of gas by the 4th quarter with only 6 players. Junior Koua Ya Xiong played her rst game of the season by contributing 2 rebounds, 1 assist to go with 3 total points. Junior Kori Koss led the scoring with 17 points while senior Marika Beyer had 16 points. Kori led the defense with 3 steals, 3 blocks, and 9 rebounds while Marika had 12 rebounds to go with 3 blocks. Anna, Kori, Marika, and Ka Youa join forces to pull off a team effort to snatch the rebound.
