Girls High School Track Cambridge Invite at Cambridge WSD girls opened their track season with a last place finish among the seven teams competing at the invite. Senior Amanda Feliciano was the only player to finish in the top three in any event. She finished first in the triple jump. Leaping For Joy: Senior Amanda Feliciano has stunned crowds and dominated competitors with her triple jump! Triathlon at Delavan-Darien High School At the triathlon hosted at Delavan-Darien High School, WSD girls finished third among the three schools invited. Seniors, Amanda Feliciano and Hannah Rees finished first and third, respectively in the triple jump and discus. GPSD at Missouri Deaf WSD girls placed fourth out of six teams at the GPSD tournament hosted by Missouri School for the Deaf. Amanda Feliciano continued her strong performance during this season with a first place finish in the 100 meter low hurdles. Junior Alexis Christ appeared on the scoreboard with a second place finish in the shot put and third in the discus. Indian Trials Conference Tournament At the Indian Trials Conference Tournament hosted annually at Delavan-Darien High School, six WSD girls competed hard and snatched a historical second place finish out of eight teams. Amanda Feliciano jumped for first in the triple jump and ran for second in the 100 meter low hurdles. Alexis Christ threw for first in the discus. Freshmen Elizabeth Besaw and Lyssa Matsche tied for third place in long jump. Walworth County Invite at Elkhorn At the Walworth County Invite hosted at Elkhorn High School, WSD girls placed last among the six teams with no Firechick placing in any of the top three slots in any events. Triathlon at WSD WSD girls bounced back from a total washout at the Walworth County invite with a first place team finish among the three teams at the triathlon. Alexis Christ and sophomore Anna Dorst finished first and second respectively in the discus. Lyssa Matsche added points with a third place finish in the long jump. Alexis Christ and Anna Dorst repeated their first and second performance in the shot put. Amanda Feliciano jumped for first in the triple jump and ran for second in the 200 meter dash. Anna Dorst ran for third in 800 meter run. Passing the Baton! Senior Hannah Rees passes the baton to freshman Lyssa Matsche. WIAA Regional at Deerfield WSD girls performed well at the WIAA regional hosted at Deerfield. Amanda Feliciano advanced to the sectionals in three events. She jumped for first in the triple jump and ran for second in both the 100 and 300 meter low hurdles. WSD’s 4 X 200 relay team also advanced with a fourth place finish. WIAA Sectionals Track Coach Therese Pohl-Markowitz rallies her girls! Her experience covers all levels: high school coach, Gallaudet MVP, and 2-time Deaflympics. At the sectional meet the WSD girls performed well but unfortunately did not finish high enough to advance to state; thus their track season ended. Summer 2012 - 13
