College Fair 2011 The Wisconsin Educational Services Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Outreach (WESP-DHH Outreach) sponsored a College Fair this October with the Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WCBVI) Outreach. The College Fair was held for one day each in four cities: Holmen (near LaCrosse), Marathon (near Wausau), Milwaukee and in Janesville at WCBVI. Colleges and Universities from across Wisconsin, as well as Gallaudet University and several resource agencies participated in one or all four of the locations. Students who are Deaf, hard of hearing, Deafblind, blind, and visually impaired were invited to attend, as were their teachers, classes, other interested staff, interpreters, and families. Christopher Woodfill represented WSD at all four locations and was impressed with the interest from both schools and agencies. Each location had an Independent Living Center local agency representative. Each location had a representative from the Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH) as well as Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR). In addition, the Center for DeafBlind Individuals in Milwaukee attended, as did Vision Forward (formerly Badger Association of the Blind), and two student representatives for Blind Students Organization. This year, the College Fair also had a schedule of events including a presentation by the Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing, a “New Technology for Blind and Visually Impaired Students” by WCBVI, Lee Gamble, several by the DVR representative, and premiere showings of two DVD’s. One of the movies was titled: “Becoming 18 in Wisconsin” by Christopher Woodfill, and the other was “ACT accommodations, FAFSE, and Scholarships” by Leslie Eldred. These DVD’s were made in ASL and were open-captioned and had voice over so that everyone who viewed them had access to communication. Look for WSD to be a host site for this College Fair next fall, and for a newer, bigger and better schedule of events. Visit: www.wesp-dhh.wi.gov for upcoming events. Charly Fleege aims for a strike. Wyatt Keller rolls a great one. Fall 2011 - 22 WSD Teacher, Christopher Woodfill and Interpreter, Christina Dean field questions at the WSD College Fair booth.
