Artie Hart is a new sophomore. He comes to WSD from Cedarburg. Artie says
he wants to learn about Deaf Culture and American Sign Language. He has
joined the WSD football team, and hopes to participate in both basketball and
track. When asked about the best part of his new school, Artie says, “Everyone
is so nice and friendly and it is a lot of fun here”. When asked what he missed
most about his old school, he says he misses the number of students per class
and in the school. Cedarburg averages 30 students per class. Artie is enjoying
all of his classes, peers and staff. He says, “I am excited to be at WSD and
anxious to learn ASL”. Welcome Artie.
Emily Nielsen is a super senior. She comes to us from Racine for the purpose
of language enhancement and transition enrichment. She attends classes each
morning and works each afternoon at a downtown Delavan business. She
is enjoying her experience at WSD. She hopes to attend Gateway Technical
College and find a career working with computers. Good Luck and welcome

Jasmine Perkins is also a sophomore. She and her
family also live in Milwaukee. Her family moved
from Chicago in 2000. Jasmine attended the
Milwaukee Sign Language School and Rufus King
High School for freshman year. Jasmine enjoys all
the fun and activities including the dorm, classes
and sports. She plays on the WSD volleyball
team and hopes to be a cheerleader for basketball.
Jasmine especially likes her teachers Ms. Michelle
Mickle and Mr. David Copeland because they
explain everything clearly. Welcome Jasmine.
Michael Schulze is a new freshman. He is the eldest of seven children and his
family lives in Richland Center. Michael enjoys computers, books of all kinds,
and math. His teacher, Mr. Mike Coates says, “He is a wonderful, hard worker
and is at the top of his class.” Good work Michael, and welcome to WSD.
Ka Youa Xiong is a sophomore. She and her family live in Milwaukee. They
moved to Milwaukee from California a year ago. Ka Youa attended the California
School for the Deaf at Fremont. Last year she attended Rufus King High School.
She misses her friends from Rufus King, but is enjoying the residential school
atmosphere. She plays volleyball and hopes to play basketball this winter as well
as a
