Never a dull weekend

BY WILD NORTHERNER STAFF

Summer brings sun and warm days as well as festivals and events. Across the northern Ontario region, towns play host to a variety of neat and unique experiences for everyone to enjoy. Here is a quick rundown on a few festivals and day events happening this summer season. (It’s always a good idea to check tourism sites of towns where you will be near while on vacation to see what events are happening currently.).

River and Sky Music and Camping Festival (July 14-17 in Field)

Going strong since 2009, this festival puts a focus on emerging regional artists along with musicians from across Canada and beyond. Located at Fisher’s Paradise, near Field, it offers good camping for tents and trailers along the Sturgeon River. It is kid, family and pet friendly. No cars are permitted beyond the gate in the camping areas. Volunteers help you pack your gear in by way of bicycle or dolly. Consider bringing your bike or canoe. Folks have been biking and paddling into the festival for years. There are plenty of workshops involving yoga, puppetry, arts and dance movement. The music line-up is spectacular as usual. Over the four days, campers will be entertained by the likes of Basia Bulat, The Sadies, Annie Sumi, Matt Foy, Night Terrors, METZ and Hello Holiday, among many other talented acts.
