Amon Tobin feel like house parties .
Babylon The room with the horseshoeshaped bar started as a hub of live music in 1998 when swing music saw a revival and the 17-piece Brian Downey Big Band crammed the small , low-ceilinged stage . Rising hip hop acts debuted here , the Souljazz Orchestra tightened their live sets with a residency , Mod Night reigned , and Yo La Tengo managed not to blow the roof off this mid-sized room full of tattered couches , arcade games , historic gig posters , and problematic plumbing . DJ and mash-up nights dominate the events calendar now , catering to a late crowd .
Bar Robo The Formica tables and objets d ’ Kijiji of the former Raw Sugar Café have been replaced with clean lines and subway tiles . Bar Robo maintains the coffee-shop comings and goings of the haunt ’ s previous incarnation , but ups the self-conscious cool with a curated menu of highlow comfort food and craft drinks . The kitschy vibe turns over when the space becomes a live music venue as night falls . The stage is demarcated by the old Lisbon Grocery & Smoke Shop sign , a Chinatown artifact that has become an iconic beacon on Instagram since the bar opened in May 2016 .
