Where ART Lives Magazine Volume 3 Number 2 | Page 46

Nancy Medina January 2017 What is your first memory of creating art? I remember vividly the day I won a magnet in First Grade for my drawing of an apple. Oh how proud I was! Do you have a favorite piece that you have created? What makes it special to you? I do, my favorite currently is a painting of the blue gates at Le Vieux Couvent, where I teach each year in Southern France. I am happy with all the temperature shifts in the old gate, and the way the light comes through the old vine around the top. This is such a magical place to paint, and the serenity in Corinne’s gardens is almost impossible to describe! One must experience this, preferably with a chocolate croissant at hand... Do you have a favorite artist that you admire or that inspires you? I absolutely admire Ann Templeton. She was the first artist who ever talked to me about trans- parent color. What do you listen to when you paint? I listen to books on my Audible app. Right now it’s Tana French mysteries - love them! What tool in your studio could you not live without? My 3/4 inch flat $2 brush! Do you have a favorite subject matter? Flowers. What is your preferred medium? Oils. 46 nancymedina.com
