What is your first memory of creating art ? Actually , when I was a child , I got into painting . I remember painting a sunset scene in oil . I didn ’ t do it long , and I wasn ’ t all that good at it , and then I kind of lost interest ... until soon after I discovered photography .
Do you have a favorite photograph ? What makes it special to you ? “ Beauty and the Door ” . Texans know their beloved state flower , the “ bluebonnet ”, and the spring of 2010 was a banner year . Wildflowers exploded all across the state . I discovered this shot in Hill Country , in Pontotoc . I also love rustic subjects , full of texture , and this has all that AND tons of color . It is hard not to like .
Do you have a favorite artist you that you admire or that inspires you ? Some of the great photographers , like Ansel Adams for nature , but also New York ’ s Berenice Abbott for her cityscape work in early 20th century . Google her name for some fascinating images .
What tool could you not live without ? A tripod of course .
Do you have a favorite subject matter ? Cityscapes and skylines , but I love landscapes , especially of my beloved state of Texas .
What is your preferred medium ? Digital photography involves the shooting of raw images , then “ processing ” in software like Photoshop to bring out the best . Before digital , there was of course , film . I learned during those days and went somewhat begrudgingly into the digital age , but it provides so many more creative opportunities .
