What is your first memory of creating art ? As a small child I spent hours “ coloring ” on a little red table that was made just for me . I spent many happy hours working there . ( Much to my parents delight , I am sure ) I have to thank my Mom as she never allowed me do to “ paint by number ” paintings that were popular then and insisted I use my own imagination to create .
Do you have a favorite artist that you admire or that inspires you ? It is difficult to choose just one artist who has inspired me throughout my art career as there are too many to count , both dead and alive !
My painting technique and style have evolved by studying a variety of artists spanning the globe ; from the Impressionists to the Abstract Expressionists , all who inspire new ideas and ways of approaching l my painting .
I have taken workshops with Doug Dawson , Ramon Kelly , Clyde Aspevig , Kim English , to name a few . I have done numerous online abstract workshops as well .
What do you listen to when you paint ? Bluegrass , classical and country music .
What tool in your studio could you not live without ? Frankly , my tool that is absolutely necessary really is music which helps get me in the zone when I paint .
Do you have a favorite subject matter ? Although many , many subjects appeal to me , I would say my # 1 favorite subject is the landscape . I can spend hours and days travelling and photographing the endless and amazing scenes that nature offers . Everywhere I go I am continuously looking at the patterns , colors , textures and atmospheric lighting that nature offers . There is not enough time left in my life to create all the ideas that keep exciting me .
I would say the only subject that I don ’ t enjoy doing is portraiture unless , of course , it is animals !!!
