Cheryle Rome Beatty How often do you paint? How many hours a week? Several hours daily, 4-5 days a week. How would you like to be remembered? A kind and generous person, an accomplished artist, a unique talent. How do you know when a painting is finished? That’s always a challenge. I think that my best pieces have been finished quickly and simply and it is sometimes difficult to accept that. So you really have to “know” that it is done and resist the temptation to overwork, yet, you have to also “know” when it isn’t and that it needs to be pushed. “Golden Web” needed to be pushed and those are the hardest to know when they are “done”. What is the most inspirational place you have visited to date? I am not inspired by “places” so much as things: modern architecture and African art which my husband and I like to collect. The architecture of Berlin and Miami’s art deco inspire me. Where would you take your dream vacation? Buenos Aires. What brings you the most joy in your life? Being creative, whether I’m painting or arranging flowers, working in my garden , designing my environment, working with my hands - which may be why I like working with pastels, it is very tactile. If you could talk about art with a deceased master artist, who would it be? Motherwell - I want to know why he painted 170 versions of “Elegy to the Spanish Republic”. Tell us something that few people know about you. I used to be a pretty good Argentine tango dancer. cromebeatty.com 102
