Stephanie Rose Long July 2016 What is your first memory of creating art? I was around 4 years old, staying with my grown up sister and she gave me a set of markers , she was an artist and I got a lot of inspiration from her. I would make scribble drawings and fill in all the spaces with different bright colors, making beautiful abstract paintings. Do you have a favorite artist that you admire or that inspires you? Way too many, I’d have to say Van Gogh, Frida Kalo, and Picasso as well as William Mathews and Donna Howell Sickles. Do you have a favorite piece that you have created? What makes it special to you? “Karalena” would be my favorite, a very simple pastel of a filly that was born at our house, done in blues and reds. What do you listen to when you paint? Pandora radio with a long list of artists on shuffle, Michael Hurley ,Brett Dennen, Dave Stamey, and Justin Timberlake are just a few. What tool in your studio could you not live without? My camera, computer and my tablet, I can blow up parts of my reference picture on the tablet making it so much easier to work from. Do you have a favorite subject matter? Horses, cows, people of the American West. What is your preferred medium? Pastel, but I also enjoy painting on leather purses with acrylic leather paint and beading with natural stones and crystals. 48 laroseart.com
