Where ART Lives Magazine Volume 2 Number 4 | Page 75

In what town and state is your art studio located? We don’t live in town but out in the country on Lake D’Arbonne, Louisiana, in the Downsville area. Both my husband and I are artists, and our studio is separate from our house and within a few yards of our home. What is your favorite part about your studio? I like that there’s no TV or phone, and that it’s apart from the house, so there are no distractions. Would you call your studio messy or neat? I’m pretty messy. I don’t like to clean up after every session, and that’s probably why I enjoy watercolor so much—it’s easy to work with, clean up, and travel with. If the studio gets too messy, and I can’t find what I need, I usually take some time to reorganize and clean before working again. Is your studio located in your home or somewhere else? Although we have a studio separate from our house, I tend to work both in the studio and in our house. I have a drawing board in the separate bedroom and my computer is in another room in the house. If I’m working fairly large on paper or canvas, I work in the studio on an easel. If I’m working small, I work at the drawing board in the spare bedroom. Much of of my “Daily Something” artwork starts as small ink drawings and is scanned into the computer and digitally colored. What do you do to set the creative mood in your studio before you begin creating art? I love to work on paper and having new paper to “play with” always inspires me. Also, I enjoy music of all kinds, especially from the 60’s and 70’s and even show tunes, so I always turn the music up while working. 75
