Acrylic Painting for Encaustic Effects was born out of an exploration for what
materials could do. My style of painting is accomplished by applying multiple
layers of transparent color and thin clear acrylic layers. I build depth and
transparency in my paintings this way and people often think the acrylic paintings
are Encaustic, so I decided to develop a book on this technique.
Experimenting and mixing things up has intrigued me all of my life. As a jeweler or
a bartender, I would stir things up to create unique patinas or a new margarita. My
training as an experimental scientist plays out in my art and my passions are
curiosity and experimentation. I have written 5 books on art techniques and I have
several DVDs. I teach workshops around the US, Europe and Australia and
maintain a studio practice. I love to create and my first question of the day is
always, What if?
