10:30-12:00 Gamelan Sari Pandhawa : Gamelan is the traditional percussion orchestra of Indonesia . Gamelan Sari Pandhawa plays the music of central Java , a region of the most populous island in the Indonesian archipelago . Music is played on sets of tuned chimes , gongs , xylophones and drums .
12:00-12:45 Japan Cultural Society ( JCS ): There are many traditional dances in Japan , but one of the most famous and enjoyable is bon dance , which is called bon-odori in Japanese . The style of this summer celebration dance varies in many aspects from region to region . This Buddhist tradition welcomes the spirits of ancestors home for annual visits . “ Obon is a gathering of joy , where respect is paid to those who came before us …. our ancestors .”
12:45-1:30 Indonesian Performing Arts : We are introduced to the richness and beauty of traditional Indonesian dances from Bali , Java and Sumatra as well as their folk songs . Prior to moving to Oregon , Novi Leigh performed with the Balinese orchestra Gamelan Genta Kasturi , where she was the lead dancer . For this special event , they will be performing with the Gamelan Sari Pandhawa .
1:45-2:30 Nuku ’ Marangi Dancers : These young dancers ’ parents were born on the tiny islands of Kapingamarangi and Nukuoro in the southern most corner of Micronesia . They share their culture through their own island dances plus a variety of dances from other islands . Their dances also include more modern numbers , which the older girls choreographed with the help of their mothers .

2:30-3:30 Kalabharathi School of Indian Dance : Portland ’ s Kalabharathi School Founder and Director Sivagami Vanka and her talented students share their passion for the classical dance form of south India . Kalabharathi promotes the values of Indian culture , preserves an ancient art form , and forges links among Indian , US and other cultures .
3:30-4:00 Bhutanese Vajrapani Fire Dance : This tantric ceremonial dance is performed by Ven . Karma Namgyel Rinpoche dressed in clothes representing tiger skins , wearing a wrathful mask and carrying a piece of wood that is on fire in each hand . Vajrapani , through this expression of dance , give offerings to the unseen spirit realm so that they will not bother human beings or animals .
4:00-4:45 Cebuano Speaking Philippine Dancers
of Salem : Multiculturalism is alive and well in the Philippines . Spanish , Muslim and indigenous influenced dances from the Northern , Central and Southern regions of the Philippines are showcased by this group of Filipino friends and families .
4:45 Parade of Nations : The parade originates at the World Showcase and proceeds through the festival grounds to the Amphitheater .
5:30-6:30 Dances of Micronesia : Micronesia is a sub-region of Oceania , comprising thousands of small islands in the Western Pacific Ocean . It is distinct from Melanesia to the south , Polynesia to the east and the Philippines to the west . Members of the Micronesian community will be performing traditional dances from the Marshall Islands , Ponapei and Palau .
