10:30-11:15 Willamette Valley Pipes and Drums:
This local organization’s three-fold mission; to serve the community
by providing entertainment through Scottish music; to develop the
musical abilities of members; and to enjoy friendship shared because
of love of pipe and drum music.
11:15-12:15 Wild Rose Garland: A World Beat tradition not
to be missed! A participatory
maypole dance will be presented
by Wild Rose Garland of Portland, Oregon. Maypole dancing
is a part of English ritual dances
that celebrate spring and
summer, and specifically May
1st. All are welcome to dance
with us and carry on this centuries-old tradition.
12:15-1:00 Possibly Irish: This 5-member band is known for
lively and interactive performances, great harmonies, not to mention
some dance steps. Irish instruments
include Bodhran drum, tin whistle,
harp and hammered dulcimer, along
with cello and guitar.
1:15-2:00 Céilí of the
Valley Society: Members and
friends of the Céilí of the Valley
Society (CVS) perform traditional
Irish social dances to live music.
Audience participation is anticipated. A non-profit organization,
CVS is dedicated to promoting and
perpetuating Irish heritage
and culture in the Willamette
Valley through social events
that incorporate music and
dance.
2:00-2:45 Cuban
Dance Exhibition: Port-
3:00-3:45 Danza Elena Villa: Portland-Based Elena, along
with friends and students, perform traditional and contemporary
flamenco dance and Spanish Arabic fusion. ¡Olé!
4:15-4:45 ArtMax Ensemble: Those at ArtMax have come
to realize that there are endless cultures, histories, and stories worth
preserving. At ArtMax, they provide an all-encompassing environment where those
who want to pass
on their craft
can be paired
with those who
desire to learn
it, regardless of
race, religion, or
political affiliations. ArtMax was
founded in 2009
in Oregon by
Maestro Hossein Salehi, as a non-profit organization.
4:45 Parade of Nations: The parade originates at the World
Showcase and proceeds through the festival grounds to the Amphitheater, where represented countries and their flags are introduced.
Wear the national dress of your birth, your forefathers’ land or your
adopted country, and join us for this colorful and upbeat parade that
embodies the spirit of the festival.
5:30-6:15 Salem International Folk Dancers: The club
celebrates dances from around the world. Active in Salem since the
1940s, the club encourages participation from
all age groups for fun and
recreation.
