Team spirit leads Wayne Valley to tournament championship

Despite dealing with equipment shortages while developing most players from scratch , the Wayne Valley girls fencing program continues to thrive under head Ann Marie McGrath .

The Indians are coming off of their third consecutive Passaic County tournament championship . Using ateam-first attitude , Wayne Valley was able to edge out Wayne Hills , winner of the District 4 tournament earlier in the year , byamere four touches in addition to third place Pompton Lakes .
It took acomplete squad effort , as the epee team , led by senior Zoe Cronin , junior Kathryn De Stefano and junior Christine Hamza , took first place to lift the school to atournament victory . Hamza ended up topping the county in the event , while De Stefano finished third overall .
