VPHS News of Old Scholars Pretorius - aka our Vee Pee Joggriffy Boff or just Pepe - on his 75th birthday on 9 July 2014. He wrote: “Sincere congratulations on your very special birthday. I trust that you will have a happy and memorable day surrounded by those whom you love. I am sure there is going to be many a story told and loads of celebrating too.” Trevor (Titch) Moore (1995) has done us proud once again. He recently came from behind to win the inaugural Sun Boardwalk Golf Challenge at the Humewood G olf Club. This is Titch’s second win on this year’s tour, with the first coming at the Telkom Business PGA Championship in April. Congratulations to you, Titch - keep the VP flag flying high! Neville also writes about his life in the ministry: “I have been in full-time Christian ministry for the last 30 years. Most of these were spent in South Africa but for several years now my wife and I have been serving in international churches in Germany, Dubai and now in China. These have been some of the most rewarding years of our lives and we are grateful for the many opportunities we have had. Recently I had the opportunity to speak at an outreach to 900 Chinese university students, more than half of whom responded to the message. We are currently in PE for about 2 months. Meantime, we are relishing the opportunity to spend additional quality time with our friends and family, including our 2 young grandsons. Diane (van Niekerk) de Beer (1973) writes from Komga: “I cant believe it’s 17 months since our High School Reunion! Our eldest, Carl, married Tara (one of a twin) in May, while Sebastian has moved into his own place - so we now suddenly have an empty nest!” Deon Spies (1971) celebrated Christmas-in-July at Hogsback recently and writes: “Once a year Gabe, Kathy and friends travel with me for a long weekend away of their choice! We really had a super time, lots of laughter, lots of wine and great fun. Next year we plan to go to Prince Albert and Sutherland. Beryl Whitehead (1975) writes from the United Arab Emirates: “Sounds like you guys on the Victorian Legends’ Committee are doing an amazing job! What a legacy to leave behind. I was actually quite tearful when reading the last Newsletter and bursting with pride and gratitude that I had the privilege to go to VP and be associated with such wonderful people. Well done!” Bob Pretorius (aka Pepe) advises us that an exVP lad, Ian Scott, a former VPH hockey goalkeeper, is now giving lectures on success and leadership in business, as well as heads up the Gautrain accounting systems. Pepe also proudly let us know that a past teacher, Mr George Latski, recently featured on DSTV’s Kwela. The program featured The George Latski Radio Museum in Van Rhynsdorp in the Western Cape. I am certain that some past learners will remember him as their Afrikaans teacher, teaching in his academic gown and mortar board. A real Legend in his day! Ray Rodoccanachi (1992) recently captained the EP Over-40 Indoor Cricket side at the Inter-provincial Tournament in Richards Bay. His team won bronze, coming third to KZN (Gold) and Mpumalanga (Silver). Ray has been selected as vice captain of the National Over-40’s side for a coastal tour in November. We’re hoping that our local arena at Hunters Retreat on the outskirts of PE will be used as a venue. He’d love us to support their team! Neville Johannie (1973) (known as Rev Nev) remembered our special geography teacher, Mr Bob 50
