Miss Köhne attained a Bachelor of Human Movement Science degree at NMMU and completed her
PGCE through UNISA. She started teaching at Victoria Park as a young and energetic teacher. Initially she migrated through a variety of sporting codes
before she found her niche coaching the 1st Girls’
Hockey team.
as a History and Geography teacher. She is a valued
Grade 8 teacher, entrusted with the responsibility of
integrating new Grade 8’s into the VP community.
Miss Köhne has proven to be a ball of energy in the
staffroom, often being the centre of jokes and laughter. She has naturally grown in confidence in her role
at VP as the Head of Girls’ Hockey and is playing
an important role in the school’s quest to secure an
astro turf.
In the Girls’ Cricket report of 2005, Mrs Beena
Johnson wrote: “The first team, under the excellent
coaching of Miss Köhne, performed well this year.”
In the same magazine, special mention was made
of Miss Köhne by Mr Brenden Botes who was in
charge of Girls’ Hockey at the time and by Mr Thoba for her contribution to VP athletics. In later years,
Miss Köhne would play a notable role in the growth
of Girls’ Soccer at VP and her name will forever be
recorded in the history books of VP Girls’ Soccer
because there is a trophy in her name – the “Köhne
Trophy for the Most Valuable Player”.
She has been leading and teaching by example
through the years and we fondly remember how she
shaved her hair in 2010 to highlight the plight of
those with Cancer. She has also been responsible for
some interesting and “out-of-the-box” devotions at
our assemblies over the years.
I wish to congratulate “Miss K”, as she is fondly
known, for completing her 10 years of service at VP
and I hope she continues to grow in her role at Victoria Park High School.
She showed similar versatility in the classroom as
she started out as a JOT teacher, where she played an
important role in the spiritual lives of the VP youth.
She went on to teach Technology, Life Orientation
and Computer Literacy, and is now settled in her role
