sters have been enquiring about the possibility of
playing golf next year.
The Victoria Park golfers once again participated in
the B section of the schools’ league this year and
acquitted themselves well.
The game of golf is certainly a very important game,
in that it teaches young golfers very important values and life skills. It is a game that can be played
and enjoyed for many years and it certainly has resulted in long-lasting relationships being cemented
between people, both socially and in the sphere of
business.
Unfortunately, a number of our golfers are involved
in other major sports at the school, which often
means that golf is not their main sport. The result is
that most of the golfers are only really available in
the first term and this is when they play league golf.
The league in the first term usually runs for about
eight weeks and matches are played on Monday afternoons.
The following golfers represented Victoria Park in
League Golf this year:
The teams travel to different courses every Monday
and we even travel as far as Kirkwood, which often
results in us arriving home after seven on a Monday
evening. A golf tour was on the cards for this year
but unfortunately did not happen as a suitable weekend could not be found. It is, however, my intention to take the boys away next year to a destination
which still needs to be determined – possibly Fish
River and Royal Port Alfred!

My aim is also to renew the school’s relationship
with Gary Packer, the golf professional at Walmer
Country Club, so that our players are provided with
the opportunity to improve their skill levels. What
is also very encouraging is that a number of young-
