VPHS The intensive training sessions added many different dimensions to the already established games of the players and they showcased that when we returned to Port Elizabeth and played against Daniel Pienaar in our first match of the second term. The players implemented all that they had learned from their professional workshops and beat the Uitenhage side 8-3. Throughout the remainder of the second term the 1st team won all their matches with the exception of one loss to Grey High. Term 3 is usually reserved for the school championships and this year we changed the format slightly. The players were divided into two groups of four and played the traditional round robin format. In the end, only two players were left to play in the championship final. Defending champion, Byron Fraser and Austin Schink contended an intriguing final. Austin eventually managed to dethrone Byron and became the new champion of VP. We are sad to bid farewell to Dario Patsalos and Bradley Laatz. They have served VP tennis with utmost dedication and professionalism. We wish them well in their future endeavours. I know that 2015 will be a year of new challenges and even with the loss of two of our senior players, the new look team will be ready for what lies ahead. It has been an absolute pleasure working with all the players in the tennis side this year.
