VPHS Netball Back Row: Kym Snuggs, Sinazo Bakumeni , Lutholwethu Tshume, Betty Maxama Front Row: Balisa Hoboshe, Mrs McLeod, Anouschka de Necker (Captain), Mr Vermaak, Unako Ndamase Our captain, Anouschka de Necker, and vice-captain, Sihle Ntlokwana, were fantastic. They led by example and made my job much easier. “I’m seeing a little bit of doubt, a little hesitation. It is not supposed to be easy. Every round gets tougher. Good passes. Shoot with confidence. I want some NASTY!” Each player in this team has qualities that make her special. Here follows a small dedication to each of them. This quote depicts the netball season of the U18’s this year. No matches were easy. The opponents were tougher and much bigger than our players; however our netball players never gave up! We doubted ourselves sometimes, but always gave of our best. SINAZO BAKUMENI: “Fast and Furious” – not many defenders could keep up with her fast feet and determination to catch a ball. She is one of the shortest goal shooters in the province, but has excellent elevation. One of the many highlights this year for me as coach was the narrow loss against Kirkwood (by two goals). Our girls played like champions and made all that attended extremely proud. ANOUSCHKA DE NECKER: “Accurate and Reliable” – RA – give me an “RA” anytime! One of the most accurate goal attacks that ever played for Victoria Park! At the Cambridge festival she maintained a goal average of 96% per game! Another highlight was the trip to East London. We took part in the Cambridge Festival during the first weekend of the July holidays. We played six games, winning three, drawing one and losing two. Our girls were complimented on their behaviour, both on and off the court. My thanks go to Mr. van der Merwe for driving and to Miss Barnard for umpiring. BALISA HOBOSHE: Fetcher – she was the link between the defence and attack of the team, her accurate passing into the goal circle was of vital importance to the team. 166
