Impulse is a training ground for aspiring young writers and actors to find their voice amongst a like minded audience. I am privileged to provide a space for the growing young voices of Impulse to expand and I look forward to an even greater number of members joining us next year. Many new and quite frankly original writers have found their way to the Impulse writing group this year. These young writers have risen above the typical “teenage angst phase” and are producing poems and short fiction that is as mature as it is thought provoking. I am very proud to be providing a forum for such emerging talent. Mr Jordan Ross VIP A new year, a new board, a new vision. The VIP, school newspaper of Victoria Park High, has been re-invigorated in 2014. With the loss of an excellent editor, Petra Djuza, who would be best to take the reins? The new board, the equally excellent editor Liyema Mandlake and his team have done a very impressive job this year. On the Drama side of things, Impulse has both found and is losing a very talented leader this year. Special thanks must go out to Taryn Benade, the head of Impulse drama, for her contributions to the emerging acting talent of the Impulse drama group. Taryn has almost single-handedly created and managed a curriculum for young dramatists aspiring to take drama as a subject in grade 10. With the ever-present guiding hand of Mrs Mariette van der Walt, Taryn has done her utmost to ensure that Drama continues to flourish at Victoria Park. Highly organised, team oriented and driven, the VIP Board has added some innovative new ideas to the VIP table. The board has consistently stuck to deadlines and produced quality editions to add to the archive this year. Bursting with ideas the VIP promises to be bigger and better in 2015. The highlight of the year for Impulse came in the form of the bi-annual Victoria Park Arts Festival. Impulse writing presented a live poetry reading in conjunction with the Cultural Society. A great many students and parents attended, gaining a new appreciation for the hidden talent ever present in this group. The Drama group entertained the crowd with theatre sports throughout the day with a range of improvised skits and games. Mr Jordan Ross 111
