President’s Message
WHY YOU MUST REALLY GET BEHIND HILLARY, NOW
It is no exaggeration to say the fate of labor, the nation and the world are at stake.
November is around
the corner.
And there is a turkey
in your future – his
name is Donald
Trump.
That’s funny (or at
least was meant to
be), but the prospect
RICK ICAZA
of President Trump is
President
anything but amusing.
And the possibility becomes more possible every day.
As I write this, national polls show Trump trailing
Clinton by only 2 percentage points. And he leads in
key battleground states Florida and Ohio.
This is very frightening, and potentially disastrous for
union members and working families alike.
This isn’t about a Democrat versus a Republican – this
is about the life and death of the labor movement.
A Trump presidency combined with a Republican
congress means the very existence of our union, and
the collective bargaining strength we possess – is in
danger.
Just look at his history. He has overworked and
underpaid his own workers, claiming he did “nothing
wrong” by forcing illegal Polish construction workers
to labor for $4 and $5 dollars an hour on his buildings.
He said “there is nothing wrong with a low minimum
wage,” and if women want equal pay, they simply
need to do “as good a job” as the men, or they deserve
less.
He thinks our wages are “too high,” and take too much
from company profits.
This is a dangerous man. His hostility to union
members is well documented, and as president he
would be in a unique position to harm and even
destroy our ability to collectively bargain.
Issue 3
How? President Trump would have at least two
appointments to the Supreme Court. The same
Supreme Court that failed to outlaw public employee
unions by one vote this year. If Trump is elected, they
certainly will succeed in destroying public employee
unions, and come after us next.
This isn’t about a Democrat
versus a Republican – this
is about the life and death of
the labor movement. A Trump
presidency combined with a
Republican congress means
the very existence of our union,
and the collective bargaining
strength we possess – is in
danger.
We cannot allow this to happen.
There is only one way we can defeat this man and the
threat he poses to our very livelihood.
That is to not only get out to vote, but to make sure
our family members are registered to vote, and to
volunteer our time (limited as it is) to helping elect
members of our team, like Hillary Clinton, Kamala
Harris, and other Democrats dedicated to protecting
working families.
This is an historic election. Years from now, we will
look back either with relief that we worked to our
absolute limit to elect Hillary Clinton, or clutch our
meager paychecks wondering why we didn’t do more
when we had the chance.
