ME Research Laboratories
Virginia Tech Mechanical Engineering is comprised of more than 30
Laboratories, and 9 Centers. Its faculty and students also take part in
research in many of the university's seven institutes. The following is
a sample of the diversity of ME's laboratory experiences.
ADVANCED MANUFACTURING AND METAMATERIALS
Run by the research group of Assistant Professor Xiaoyu
'Rayne' Zheng, the lab conducts research at the intersection
of 3D fabrication technologies and 3D architected mechanical
metamaterials. The aim of the lab's research is to advance the
next generation of additive manufacturing technologies and
design tools. In July 2016, Zheng was featured in the journal
Nature Materials.
