STEAM CURRICULAR
INITIATIVE - $1.0M
Why a STEAM Initiative?
In the face of rapid technological change, we seek to prepare our students
for a world that doesn’t yet exist. That requires children who can think freely
across disciplines, engage with difficult real-world questions, collaborate in
designing solutions, and become “experts in their fields.”
You may already be familiar with the acronym STEM, which stands for
science, technology, engineering, and math. At Villa we’ve also included an
“A” to turn STEM to STEAM. That stands for the arts, and their important
place at Villa.
We plan to increasingly weave STEAM subjects into our curriculum through
Project Based Learning which involves: in depth inquiry into subjects, driving
questions and challenges, critique and revision, significant content based on
rigorous standards, and public presentation of acquired knowledge.
Villa already has a head start with its focus on 21st century skills, which our
faculty has championed since 2012. Through our STEAM initiative we will
expand our program, and provide the essential components that will prepare
our students for high school and beyond.
