driving?

The one thing that doesn’t change about getting behind the camera is what you do when you step away from it. How’s that? Believe it or not, you’ve got just as much a chance of making a great video as anyone else in the world. I’m talking about editing. As soon as you know how to edit, all those little nooks and crannies floating around in your head will bring your raw footage to life. But there’s a catch.

You can have the most expensive camera in the world, but if you don’t know how to edit—you’re setting yourself up to crash. Much like stepping into a Ferrari without knowing how to drive stick shift.

And as soon as you’re up to speed with it (pun time!), you’re cruising through video editing.

In this chapter, we’ll explore the basics of video editing. From simple cuts—to keyframing motion effects, we’ll learn simple techniques that can help us understand our limitations and possibilities with video editing software. Our creativity is only the reflection of our end goal. So, let’s ride this coaster and check out our picture at the end.

Sorry. My corny references are finally catching up...

Pretty Penny 'PI': BANKRUPTCY

Did you know Rhythm and Hues went bankrupt for $16 million after edting Life of Pi (2012)? Even though the visual effects company brought life-like 3D precedence to the film industry, executive producers felt the idea was a huge gamble.

Pi's tiger used 3D software to digitally comb all the hairs on its wire-frame body.
