YOUTH RISING

Young adults and school children were at the forefront of the campaign
in many communities. Thousands of youth around the world danced
to the anthem “Break the Chain”, others created their own dances,
poems and expressions of revolution calling out sexism, patriarchy and
gender inequality, demanded access to education as a tool to overcome
injustice in their homes and in society, and bravely spoke out about their
experiences of domestic and sexual violence. Mothers, fathers and elders
rose to raise non-violent sons. Somali Youth hosted a radical OBR event
where they rose for their rights, determined to rebuild their country through
service, education and peace. Other youth risings took place in Kabul, at
the Promoting Women’s Center for Education and in Dhaka and La Paz,
Mexico. Over 2000 young people rose at the Gender Mela in Miranda House
in Delhi at the Tanzanian SEGA Girls School. In San Francisco, for young
teens created a “We Are The Women” music video to address misogyny in
the music industry. In the Gambia, Girls Agenda rose.
