ding mitigating the effects of the Aral Sea crisis , socio-economic development , protection and promotion of human rights . The country actively contributes to UN efforts to ensure global and regional security . An important input in this direction was the initiative by President Islam Karimov to establish Central Asia as a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone ( CANWFZ ). In September 2006 , the Central Asian states signed the Treaty on CANWFZ in Semipalatinsk . After ratification by all five Central Asian states in the region CANWFZ Treaty entered into force in March 2009 . The country has most productive cooperation with UN institutions such as the UNDP , UNODC , OPCW , UNESCO , UNISEF , ILO , UNFPA , Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization , UN High Commissioner for Human rights and others .
Cooperation of Uzbekistan with OSCE . Cooperation of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the OSCE and its institutions is conducted at different levels and it covers a wide range of questions and issues . From the 1994 Permanent mission of Uzbekistan to the OSCE in Vienna has been operating and in June 2006 on initiative of Uzbekistan the OSCE Permanent Council has decided to establish the office of the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan . The main focus of the cooperation is implementing principles and accepted responsibilities in the framework of the Organization on all three dimensions considering new challenges and threats of the security , international agenda and the national interests of Uzbekistan . The institutes of civil society are actively involved in the implementation of projects , including the governmental agency of protection of human rights , the Authorized person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for human rights ( Ombudsman ), the National Center for Human Rights , the National Association of Non-governmental and Non-profit Organizations of Uzbekistan ( NANNOUz ) and other national NNOs . Every year chairmen-in-office of the OSCE officially visits Uzbekistan and last one was organized to the country 30 March 2016 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier .
Cooperation within SCO . Uzbekistan is one of the founders of the Organization and together with other Member States establishes the strategy of cooperation within the SCO framework . Tashkent considers necessary to concentrate efforts within the framework of the Organization in the areas of maintaining regional stability and developing economic and investment cooperation .
SCO summit - Tashkent 23-24 June 2016
Within the framework of the Republic of Uzbekistan chairmanship in the Organization in the course of the SCO summit the Regulation on observer status in the SCO and the Order of the SCO interaction with observers were signed in Tashkent in 2004 . The Regulation on the admission of new members to the SCO and the Rules of the SCO procedures were approved at the SCO summit in Tashkent in 2010 . The chairmanship of the Organization for 2015-2016 passed to Uzbekistan , which as a chairman-state intends to adhere strictly and follow the principles of continuity and consistent strengthening of mutually beneficial development , meeting the interests of the SCO member states , as well as the continued growth of the prestige of Organization in international arena . Last SCO summit held in Tashkent 23-24 June 2016 . It will continue to be an urgent task to develop measures to enhance the joint fight against terrorism , extremism , separatism preparing adequate responses to modern challenges of international , regional security , sustainable economic and human development of all countries that are members of the SCO . Great importance will be given to measures to expand cooperation between the member countries in order to strengthen the role of the SCO as a reliable guarantor of stability and development in the region , as well as the further development of relations with the UN , other international organizations and interested countries .
