CALL can increase students’ motivation. The facilitative effect of motivation
on language learning is well documented (see e.g. Ellis 1986: 116-117).
According to Jones (1991: 37), a major advantage claimed for CALL lies in its
ability to motivate. The reasons why students become motivated include, among
others, their belief that learning through computers is easier and more effective
(Warschauer 1996b), and the novelty of working with a new medium which
