purposeful context.
OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson students will be able to:
use skimming in order to understand the overall organization of a text and
get the gist.
use scanning to locate specific information.
guess the meaning of words from the context.
understand the organizational structure of narrative and the rules which such
texts are governed by
understand cohesive devices and anaphoric references.
be able to use the computer effectively in order to carry out a number of
tasks.
Students’ background: There are 15 students in the class. They are all aged 12.It is a
mixed ability class with some children attending afternoon English classes and others
who do not. There are many who underachieve and look indifferent. As far as
computer skills are concerned, most students can do basic things such as to open and
close windows, and they can use the keyboard and mouse quite effectively.
Anticipated problems: Children are used to asking for any unknown words they find
when they read texts and they do not feel secure until all words are explained to them.
As they are not familiar with castles and relevant terminology, some things might be
difficult for them to understand.
