process of discovery.
Activity 4 (see appendix IV, p. x) aims at practicing scanning. Students are led
through a hyperlink to a Hot Potatoes activity where they are asked to answer a
number of questions, most of which are of the True/ False type. The software is
interactive and students can get immediate feedback. However, the feedback provided
is individualized and non-judgemental (see 1. 3. 3 above), something which
encourages shy students try their guesses without being exposed in front of the whole
class. In advance, the activity provides scaffolding as, in the case of an erroneous
answer, students are advised to limit their search to a particular paragraph of the text.
