Inclusion Wins Over Isolation

A Global Survey in 2014 by McKinsey & Co looked at the pressure IT was under to be more effective. While Executives were acknowledging the strategic value of IT they were, overall, more negative about IT performance. That didn't mean IT wasn't working, rather that there needed to be greater focus.

The survey identified 3 clear forward focus areas:

1. Address talent from the top;

2. Increase business-side involvement; and

3. Balance competing demands.

These remain a constant and continuous challenge for IT. Of particular importance is point 2 - business-side involvement.

IT must not and can not operate in isolation of the business. Those who lead technology projects must be the bridge that joins the two. IT Leaders who do this are able to build an inclusive environment. It's precisely because they value and actively encourage business involvement that they can lead their projects to success, for everyone.
