Understanding Self-Worth and Self-Hate April 2022 | Page 23

Listen. A key part of being a great friend is simply listening to them when they are having a hard time. Let them know you care and understand dealing with self-worth can be difficult.

Offer a positive perspective. If your friend is listening to their inner critic, remind them how you see them. Offer encouragement and point out positive, unique characteristics you appreciate about them. This could help to replace the negative thoughts and help them remember that internalizing the inner critic's lies is unhealthy and can lead to self-destructive behaviors.

Do something kind. A nice gesture, like writing an encouraging note or buying them coffee, can show your friend that you care.
