CHIHULY GARDEN & GLASS
SHINES IN THE EMERALD CITY
On a tour of Seattle, you might find that Washington’s Emerald City is not unlike the Emerald
City from “The Wizard of Oz.” There’s plenty of green (the nearby Cascade Range), and there
are gleaming, imaginative structures all around.
At the Space Needle & Chihuly Garden and Glass, visitors can tour an indoor exhibition
dedicated to the work of glass artist Dale Chihuly, an outdoor garden replete with his pieces
and Seattle’s iconic observation tower.
“Students are fascinated by the colors and shapes of the glass installations,” says Lisa
Schmidt, tourism development sales manager for the two attractions. “They especially love

The attraction discounts admission for
groups of K–12 students on school field
trips, and the rates are available from
September to June.
The gallery pieces highlight the
techniques Chihuly and his assistants use
to create their renowned glass sculptures.
The finished works range from beautiful,
functional objects to pillars of interlocking
glass tubes.
“We offer a scavenger hunt, which is
a great way for students to have a fun,
interactive experience outdoors and
work together as a team to find clues to
solve puzzles,” says Schmidt. “We also
offer private hosted tours at the highly
discounted rate of $100, tax-inclusive, per
host at Chihuly Garden and Glass.” Group
tour reservations must be made at least
two weeks in advance.
