Garden of the Gods
Home to towering red rock formations and beautiful flora and fauna,
Garden of the Gods park is a top draw for school groups heading to
Colorado Springs. The park, which draws more than 2 million visitors
a year, covers more than 1,200 acres and has a number of trails
that can be explored on foot, as part of a guided bicycle ride or on a
Segway tour.
Last year two new exhibit halls opened at the visitor and nature
center. The complex geology, ecology and cultural history of the park
come to life through new hands-on interactive exhibits found in these
galleries. The center also is the site of 30-minute nature presentations
that cover a wide range of topics, and it is where groups can enjoy the
Geo-Trekker movie experience. Free naturalist-led hikes, which start at
10 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day, are another popular activity.
