The exhibit will feature statues of ancient Chinese soldiers, civil officials and entertainers unearthed from the burial complex of China’s first emperor. CC FLICKR/JOHN BARBER: bit.ly/29HC3s2 “Terracotta Warriors” will tell the story of this clay army, starting with its discovery in 1974, when a farmer was digging a well for his orchard, and moving back to its creation in 210 B.C.E. Visitors will learn about the cultural context of the warriors, as well as the craftsmanship of the statues. The exhibition will run April 8–Sept. 3, 2017. The Pacific Science Center is taking earlybird reservations for groups of 10 or more. For more information, contact Lindsae Long at llong@ pacsci.org or go to pacsci.org. After the world lost Muhammad Ali on June 3, the world found the Muhammad Ali Center—or so it seemed to the staff of the downtown Louisville attraction. “Mourners and friends and fans came from literally all over the globe to pay tribute to a man they loved and admired, and whom they were inspired by,” says Jeanie Kahnke, senior director of external affairs. “Now that Muhammad has passed away, there is new curiosity about his life and about the Muhammad Ali Center.” The center, which opened in 2005, provides an exploratory roadmap of Ali’s life, from his Louisville roots and remarkable boxing career to his humanitarian achievements. Pavilions rich with multimedia and interactivity explore Ali’s six core principles: confidence, conviction, dedication, respect, giving and spirituality. And new exhibits are on the way. Set to open in September is one that focuses on Ali’s humanitarian efforts and his impact on the next generation. This permanent expansion will include new temporary exhibit space that will first be filled with “RACE: Are We So Different?” The interactive exhibit explores race on biological, cultural and historical levels. It will run from Sept. 24 to Jan. 2, 2017. “The Ali Center welcomes visitors to experience how The Greatest became such a cultural, historical and sports icon,” Kahnke says. “We hope, too, they’ll be inspired to find their own personal greatness.” For details about hours, exhibits and more, visit alicenter.org or email Kahnke at [email protected]. 46 trip planner MUHAMMAD ALI CENTER ‘NEW CURIOSITY’ ABOUT ALI CENTER
