National Museum of African American History and Culture This September, Washington, D.C., will welcome another state-of-the-art attraction, the National Museum of African American History and Culture. This new museum, which will be located on five acres adjacent to the Washington Monument, will present the story of America through the lens of the African-American experience. Galleries will include objects, photographs, moving images, documents and art from many periods of American history, such as the era of slavery, the post-Civil War Reconstruction years, the Harlem Renaissance and the civil rights movement. Part of the Smithsonian’s family of attractions, the museum also will offer a number of programs, lectures and special events to complement its displays and artifacts. LOUDER THAN WORDS: ROCK, POWER AND POLITICS Coming Jan. 13, 2017 The Newseum and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame partner for a one-of-a-kind exhibit that explores the power of rock to change attitudes about patriotism, peace, equality and freedom.
