NEW ORLEANS
One of the first things that comes to mind when people think of New
Orleans is the food. The city along the Mississippi River lives up to its
legendary culinary reputation, thanks to its French, Cajun and Southern
roots and some very innovative chefs. In addition to its renowned
restaurants, New Orleans also has a thriving craft cocktail scene.
Travelers can learn more about this aspect of local culture during
small-group programs at the New Orleans Drink Lab. Founded by Daniel
Victory, who is considered a pioneer of the city’s craft cocktail movement,
the Lab offers interactive classes that teach drink-making basics and
provide more information on traditional beverages.
The “Classic New Orleans Cocktails” and “Makings Mixology” options
are two-hour sessions that include welcome drinks, a brief lesson on
cocktail history, hands-on preparation of cocktails and lunch. As part
of “Wine Enthusiast Tasting,” groups get to swirl and sip some of the
top wines from the region. Another master class, “Bourbon & Whiskey
Tasting,” includes an in-depth look at these popular spirits and explores
varieties from different parts of the country.
