LOW-TECH ALTERNATIVES

Sometimes you need a simpler solution for reaching non-desk employees . Not a carrier pigeon , perhaps , but something almost that basic . Here are five oddball channels we ’ ve used , all of them decidedly low-tech .
mirror clings
Breakroom wall space is often limited or over-used , but mirror clings over restroom sinks tend to capture attention , if only because they ’ re less expected . We ’ ve used them for events , brand launches and wellness programs .
stairwell signage
Depending on the construction of the stairs , you might be able to use the underside of the stairs . If that surface is flat , it can work well for a large format printed piece . Otherwise , you might think of putting messaging on the vertical facing of the stair treads , or even using several treads for a multipart message .
elevator wraps
These can be a great way to keep evergreen messaging front and center . For instance , you might use them for the company values , or for a long-term company goal .
spiral counter pad
Imagine a long skinny spiral notebook that sits just behind a keyboard or in front of the register . These can be printed as weekly calendars , with a weekly message on a cultural theme . Or you can use part of each page for your communications and leave blank space for employees to use as a note pad . Look for a way to make the pad useful , so employees will have reasons to refer to it .
vehicle floor mat
Employees who drive company trucks or vans all day can be particularly hard to reach . You might consider printing paper floor mats and putting them in vehicles before employees arrive for their shifts . These work best for one-time announcements , rather than perennial messaging , since they ’ ll get destroyed almost immediately .
